Nine Lektors and five German language assistants work for the DAAD in the German Studies departments of numerous Italian universities.

The DAAD Lektors teach German as a foreign language and German studies. They also promote the German language through cultural events and extra-curricular activities, and organise regular information events on studying and conducting research in Germany and on DAAD scholarships.

The German language assistants who teach at five universities in Italy (Bari, Bologna, Rome/Sapienza,  Naples/Orientale, Turin) are young graduates gaining experience in teaching German as a foreign language. As DAAD scholarship holders they spend ten months at a university abroad teaching German and organising additional teaching and cultural events for students.
